River cruise line AmaWaterways has launched a new Stateroom Upgrade Program, in which travelers who have already reserved a river cruise can now participate in an online auction system to request and bid for available stateroom upgrades.
The program is available for guests from the United States on all ships in Europe, Egypt and the Mekong. It was originally soft launched for guests of the AmaMagna, the cruise line’s largest European river ship.
Around 85 days prior to departure, travelers will receive an email detailing their available upgrade options. They can then visit AmaWaterways’ website to browse the upgrades and place bids on them, which they can do up to a week before departure.
If a bid is accepted, both guests and their travel advisors will be notified via email, and guests are charged the amount they bid for the upgrade. If the bid isn’t accepted, the guests remain in their booked stateroom and are not charged. Travel advisors receive 10 percent commission on their guests’ accepted upgrades.
"At AmaWaterways, we are constantly striving to enhance our guests' experiences by offering innovative and personalized options,” said Kristin Karst, co-founder and executive vice president of AmaWaterways.
“By introducing this bidding process, we empower our guests to choose enhancements that best suit their desires and budget, ensuring a more personalized and memorable journey,” continued Karst. “This initiative reflects our commitment to continually evolving our offerings to meet and exceed the expectations of our valued travelers."
