Avelo Airlines is setting the standard for reliability as the December holiday travel season gets underway. According to data from Anuvu, a trusted aviation analytics provider used by The Wall Street Journal in its annual airline rankings, the budget airline is leading the U.S. industry with the best on-time performance and lowest cancellation rates for the first 11 months of 2024.
Founder and CEO Andrew Levy highlighted Avelo’s commitment to dependability, saying, "As we enter the busy December holiday travel season, our Customers can count on Avelo to get them where they want to go on time and with their bags. Few things are more frustrating to travelers—especially during the holidays—than long flight delays and cancellations. At Avelo we understand this and have a shared passion across our team for uncompromising operational excellence. We look forward to welcoming aboard the 250,000 Customers flying with us this month and delivering the reliable, convenient and affordable travel experience that distinguishes Avelo."
So far in 2024, Avelo has outperformed major competitors, with 85.2 percent of its flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time on time (the DOT’s standard metric), far exceeding the industry average of 76 percent. Delta Air Lines and United Airlines ranked second and third with on-time performance rates of 82.1 percent and 78.7 percent, respectively. Additionally, Avelo boasts a flight cancellation rate of just 0.45 percent, significantly lower than the 1.39 percent industry average.
This year has been a watershed one for Avelo, including a record-breaking Thanksgiving travel period that saw 125,000 passengers flying in just seven days. The airline carried nearly 15,000 travelers on December 1, marking its busiest day since launching in 2021. For December, Avelo expects to fly 250,000 passengers—a new monthly record—with over 150,000 traveling during the peak holiday period between December 20 and January 5.
Avelo has also expanded its network more than ever before. In November alone, the airline added 16 new routes and debuted four new destinations, including its first two international stops: Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Cancun, Mexico. Looking ahead to early 2025, Avelo plans to introduce 10 more routes, including service to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Currently, the airline operates 97 routes connecting 50 destinations in the U.S. and overseas using its fleet of 20 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.
"With the addition of these popular new routes and destinations, travelers have more choices on Avelo than ever,” Levy said. “And with our everyday low fares, industry-leading reliability and unrivaled convenience, getting where you want to go has never been more affordable, easier and enjoyable."
To celebrate its industry-leading reliability and customer success, Avelo is currently offering low one-way fares starting at $47, available at aveloair.com.
