Baja California Wines Triumph at 2024 Bacchus International Wine Competition

Baja California has solidified its position as a world-class wine region, securing 32 of the 52 medals awarded to Mexico at the prestigious 2024 Bacchus International Wines and Vermouth Competition. This remarkable achievement underscores the exceptional quality of wines produced in the region.

The Bacchus Competition, a member of VINOFED (World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions), is recognized by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) and Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA). This year's competition featured more than 1,900 wines from 18 countries, including renowned wine-growing regions such as Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Chile and Australia.

Notable Achievements

- The 2019 Roganto Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the Great Golden Bacchus and recognized as the Best Mexican Wine.

- El Peor Vino del Mundo Blanco 2021 from Decantos received special recognition.

- Twenty-three wine labels were awarded in the Golden Bacchus category, including entries from La Lomita, Monte Xanic, Corona del Valle, Chateau Camou, Concierto Enológico, La Carrodilla, Xecué, Las Nubes, Hacienda Guadalupe, L.A. Cetto, Bajalupano, and Pedro Domecq.

- Seven Silver Bacchus medals were awarded to various labels from Hacienda y Cava Martlot, Roganto, Rolu, Vinícola Emeve, Monte Xanic, and L.A. Cetto.

Mexican Wine Industry Success

Other Mexican states also garnered recognition:

- Guanajuato: 1 Great Gold, 7 Gold, and Silver medals

- Aguascalientes: 2 Gold medals

- Coahuila: 5 Gold and 5 Silver medals

- Querétaro: 1 Gold and 1 Silver medal

- Zacatecas: 1 Silver medal

Baja California: The Capital of Mexican Wine

Baja California, known for its diverse landscapes ranging from ocean to desert, has earned the title "Capital of Mexican Wine." The region accounts for over 70% of the country's wine production and is renowned for its seven distinct winemaking valleys, each contributing unique characteristics that favor high-quality wine production.

This recent success at the Bacchus International Wine Competition further cements Baja California's reputation as a leading wine region on the global stage.
