For the third time, the Dominican Republic offers a Roadshow, in the city of Orlando, Florida where more than 350 tour operators, travel agents and representatives of the main airlines gathered to learn about the tourist wonders of the Caribbean country.
During the event, the Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, presented the tourist offer of the country highlighting the paradisiacal beaches, the rich culture and the hospitality of its people. In his speech, Collado seized the opportunity to share statistics regarding the initiatives underway in the tourism industry, emphasizing the significant rise in tourist numbers and flights since the pandemic. He also noted the introduction of new daily service from Southwest Airlines from MCO to PUJ, along with the existing nonstop flights provided by JetBlue, Spirit, and Frontier, making the destination more accessible for visitors from Central Florida.
The United States is the main source of tourists of the Dominican Republic and Orlando represents the third largest city and the sixth in the world. In 2023, 215 thousand tourists were received from the Orlando airport, representing 19% of the total tourists received from the United States. As of September 2024, this percentage rises to 22%. This is why it is very important for the country to strengthen commercial ties, business and investment opportunities with this city.
"We continue working with the firm commitment of promoting tourism in the Dominican Republic with the objective of continuing to create jobs, generating foreign currency and strengthening the economy of our country. From Orlando Airport, as of September we have already received 197 thousand tourists by air, with a projection of 10% growth for 2024. Figures that fill us with pride and motivate us to continue positioning the Dominican Republic as a preferred destination in the international market," said Minister Collado.
This space also gave the opportunity to explain the Do Travel Rewards program, a loyalty program in the country whose main objective is to recognize the efforts of travel agents from around the world in promoting the Dominican destination, providing them with firsthand information and strengthening the relationship with such important members of the industry. Likewise, the program works as a connection channel for the hotel sector with the more than 18,0000 agents around the world enrolled in the program and offers the ideal platform to create value offers for travelers visiting the Dominican Republic.
This event is part of the Ministry of Tourism's strategy to strengthen the promotion of the country in the international market and attract more visitors, contributing to the sustainable growth of the tourism sector.
