HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) has kicked off its 2024-25 Antarctica season, with ships MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen sailing to the White Continent.
This is the company’s first all-inclusive season in Antarctica. In March, HX announced that it would begin offering all-inclusive voyages, with the rollout starting in October. Now, the cruise fare is inclusive of everything from excursions to drinks and gratuities.
Also new this season, HX is offering its first-ever Audubon Voyages in partnership with the National Audubon Society.
In addition to taking travelers to Antarctica, HX will also be supporting scientific research projects onboard its ships. Last season, the company donated more than 1,620 cabin nights to researchers, supported more than 20 projects and contributed more than 8,000 data submissions.
This year, HX wants to do even more to support scientific research. It will be supporting an array of projects, including an algae and black carbon study led by Alia Khan, deep-sea drone exploration led by Manuel Novillo and acoustic whale-monitoring led by Heidi Ahonen.
HX will also be implementing new responsible tourism measures set by the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO). The updated protocols include 17 site guidelines, a digital guide app and the establishment of a cruise-only working group for enhanced visitor management.
