Looking Forward to Mardi Gras
Once the new year jitters are shaken out, it’s time to get into Mardi Gras mode. Starting soon after the first of the year, carnival season and all its glory are here! The festivities run all through January, wrapping up on the eagerly awaited Fat Tuesday. Just six short days into the new year, on Twelfth Night, January 6, Mardi Gras is officially upon us. With king cakes, parades, and bead tossing taking over the city, the celebration only increases as we make our way closer to Mardi Gras day, which this year falls on February 13th. During this time, the streets come alive with music, art, and costumed revelers. There is so much to enjoy during carnival season! With Mardi Gras starting early, it is important to note that the celebrations start off small and get bigger as the season goes on. The bigger parades begin to trickle in as the height of parade season approaches in the two weeks leading up to Mardi Gras day.
As a visitor, we invite you to join in on the fun and immerse yourself in all Mardi Gras has to offer. Visitors are encouraged to explore our Mardi Gras traditions, whether it's new traditions like the Star Wars-inspired Krewe of Chewbacchus or decades-old ones like Zulu and Mardi Gras balls. Other traditions include trying different slices of king cake, standing in awe of our community walking krewes, and making new friendships with your neighbors on the route. New Orleans & Company can even assist you with obtaining a balcony or viewing stands pass at one of the various locations that offer these deals. There are so many ways to have a full and priceless Mardi Gras experience. Join in on the fun as celebrations take place all over town leading up to the pinnacle day of the season, Fat Tuesday!
