The peak summer travel period has come to a close but airlines are gearing up for the hectic holiday season with plans to launch new service.
Whether it's rolling out new flights for college football fans or connecting more major U.S. cities with beloved Caribbean hotspots, travelers have a lot to look forward to this fall.
Here's a look at some of the exciting new flights taking off this autumn.
New Alaska Airlines Routes
Alaska Airlines, which is currently eyeing a potential merger with Hawaiian Airlines, will launch nonstop service between Portland, Oregon and Atlanta on October 1.
The new daily flight will operate year-round, marking the carrier's 54th destination from the City of Roses.
New American Airlines Routes
American Airlines will offer expanded Caribbean service this fall, connecting New York City (JFK) to Bridgetown, Barbados with new daily service starting November 5. The airline will also connect Philadelphia with Bridgetown via Saturday-only service taking off November 9.
American will also increase flights between Phoenix and Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico starting November 5.
Early November will also see the carrier launch four new flights from LaGuardia, including Orlando, Sarasota and West Palm Beach in Florida as well as New Orleans.
New Avelo Airlines Routes
Relative newcomer Avelo Airlines will make its international debut this fall. Beginning in November, Avelo will fly twice weekly from Hartford, Connecticut to Cancun, Mexico and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The airline will also introduce more than a dozen other new routes this fall, including new twice-weekly domestic routes to Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina; Daytona Beach, Florida; Houston, Texas; Orlando/Lakeland, Florida and Wilmington, North Carolina from Hartford.
Customers can also look forward to new twice weekly service to Albany, New York; Boston/Manchester, New Hampshire; Orlando/Lakeland, Florida; Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delaware and Rochester, New York from Charlotte, North Carolina’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport.
New Delta Air Lines Routes
Delta Air Lines plans to launch a new seasonal service between Orlando International Airport and London Heathrow Airport beginning October 26. Delta will also connect Atlanta with Barbados and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic starting November 23.
New Frontier Airlines Routes
Ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines will launch 11 new routes across 15 airports this fall, including service between Atlanta and Austin beginning October 11. Frontier will connect Seattle and Salt Lake City the same day before launching new weekly service between Cincinnati and Sarasota, Florida on October 12.
Other notable new routes taking flight include Denver-Burbank, California; Atlanta-Newark; Orlando-New York City (JFK) and Tampa-New York City (JFK).
New JetBlue Routes
JetBlue will launch new service from Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in late October. New options include Providence; Westchester County; Santiago, Dominican Republic; Medellín, Colombia and Cancún, Mexico.
The new routes begin October 27-29.
New Southwest Airlines Routes
October will be a busy month for Southwest Airlines, which recently extended its bookable flight schedule through April 7, 2025. On October 3, the low-cost carrier will add seasonal nonstop service between Memphis and Las Vegas (Thursdays-Mondays).
Starting October 5, Southwest will resume seasonal nonstop service on weekends between Austin and Los Cabos as well as Phoenix and Cancun. Additional seasonal Saturday service will resume between Atlanta and Cancun; San Antonio and Cancun; Fort Lauderdale and Montego Bay; Kansas City and Los Cabos and Sacramento and Los Cabos on October 5.
Effective October 6, the airline will add seasonal nonstop service between Nashville and Richmond (Sundays).
New Spirit Airlines Routes
Spirit Airlines plans to start a new route from Charlotte to New Orleans that will operate five times a week beginning October 10.
The budget carrier will also connect Fort Lauderdale with Birmingham, Alabama with daily flights starting October 10.
New United Airlines Routes
United Airlines will be the only airline to directly connect the U.S. and Marrakesh when it launches new service from Newark on October 24.
Meanwhile, United will make its nonstop debut in Medellin, Colombia with new service from Houston launching on October 27.
