Silversea plans to build a hotel in the world’s southernmost city, Puerto Williams, Chile.
The cruise line hopes to use the new 150-room property during expedition cruises to Antarctica. Silversea is the only cruise line that homeports in Puerto Williams during
the Antarctica season, instead of the more common Ushuaia, Argentina.
A consortium of Chilean investors are partnering on the project, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2025. Construction has already begun.
“We’re thrilled to enhance the Antarctic travel experience by offering seamless journeys that remove traditional barriers for guests to this region,” says Bert
Hernandez, president of Silversea. “This development not only differentiates us from other polar expeditions but also reaffirms our commitment to innovation and excellence as Silversea continues to set the standard in experiential luxury travel.”
The hotel will be surrounded by trees and offer views of the surrounding Patagonian mountains and the Beagle Channel. It will have a restaurant, a bar and lounge, a fitness center and a gift shop featuring local products.
Travelers sailing aboard Silver Endeavour, Silver Wind and Silver Cloud will be able to take advantage of the new accommodation once it opens. Silversea’s Antarctica voyages range from six to 20 days in duration; the brand also offers an “Antarctica Bridge”
fly-cruise program that allows guests to skip sailing the Drake Passage and instead fly to Antarctica.
“As we continue to push the boundaries on the ultimate vacation experience for our guests, this new hotel allows us to offer an unmatched Antarctic expedition that further enhances our diverse portfolio of world-class vacations across our brands,” says
Jason Liberty, president and chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean Group. “Partnering with our experienced teams in Chile,
we are providing guests with a unique opportunity to explore one of the world’s most breathtaking and remote destinations that advances our promise to deliver a lifetime of vacations.”
