Viking’s fleet is growing: Today, the cruise line took delivery of its newest Nile River vessel, the Viking Hathor.
The company, which recently went public, celebrated the arrival of the new 82-guest vessel during a ceremony at the Massara shipyard in Cairo. Viking Hathor joins the Viking Osiris, the Viking Aton, the Viking Ra and the MS Antares on the Nile; Another new ship, Viking Sobek, will join the fleet in November, five months ahead of schedule.
"We are proud to welcome the Viking Hathor to our award-winning river fleet,” says Torstein Hagen, chairman and CEO of Viking. “With its abundance of cultural treasures and ancient antiquities, Egypt has always been a destination of great interest to curious travelers, including our guests. We believe our ships are by far the most elegant vessels sailing the Nile River, and we look forward to introducing even more explorers to this fantastic destination in the years to come.”
Viking Hathor is the sister ship of Viking Osiris and Viking Aton and, as such, features the same elegant Scandinavian design. It has 41 staterooms, as well as a square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace.
Viking Hathor will sail the popular 12-day “Pharaohs & Pyramids” itinerary. The trip starts with a three-night stay in Cairo, where guests can visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali and the Grand Egyptian Museum. From Cairo, guests fly to Luxor to visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak. Then, they board their river cruise ship for an 8-day round trip voyage on the Nile.
Along the way, travelers can explore the tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens and the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings, among other iconic sites. The trip ends with a flight back to Cairo for an overnight stay. Guests can also book pre- and post-trip extensions in London, Istanbul and Jordan.
