The Dominican Republic is home to stunning beaches and top-notch resorts, but visitors will also be wowed by its stunning national parks, each offering unique biodiversity, landscapes, and recreational opportunities.

Parque Nacional del Este (National Park of the East)

Located in the southeastern part of the country, this park encompasses diverse ecosystems, including pristine beaches, coral reefs, mangroves, and subtropical forests. Visitors can explore Saona Island, the park's most popular attraction, known for its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. They will also want to relax at Playa Palmilla, a secluded beach with pristine sand and calm water. Cueva de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders) is a fascinating underground cave system that is located near the park.

Parque Nacional Los Haitises (Los Haitises National Park)

Situated in the northeastern region, Los Haitises is renowned for its dramatic limestone karst landscapes, mangrove forests, and abundance of bird species. Boat tours through the park's network of mangrove-lined channels offer opportunities to observe wildlife, ancient Taino cave art, and hidden caves. Visitors can enjoy guided hikes on local trails and there are many dramatic landscapes to be captured by photographers.

Parque Nacional Jaragua (Jaragua National Park)

Located in the southwestern part of the country, Jaragua is the largest national park in the Dominican Republic and encompasses diverse habitats, including dry forests, coastal lagoons, and marine environments. The park is home to unique species such as the American crocodile, West Indian manatee, and the endangered Ricord's iguana. Visitors should see the Bahía de las Águilas, hike to Sierra de Bahoruco or take a boat tour or kayak excursion to Laguna de Oviedo.
