I can only share with you why myself and a few of my travel advisor friends chose the travel industry as a career.

My previous career was in the airline industry and I love travel. My children have been traveling since they were six weeks old.

Helping others explore the world is my passion.

If you believe exploring the world, learning about new destinations and helping craft one of a kind experiences is your passion, then the travel industry is for you and needs you.

Recent research highlighted how some travel agencies are struggling to hire new advisors

Here are some of my friends’ thoughts on why you should become a travel advisor.

Michael Goines, MD Luxury Travel LLC:

People with the willingness and passion to be in customer service should think about becoming travel advisors. The best Travel Advisors are seasoned travelers with excellent customer service. Customer service is the utmost quality that a new Travel Advisor should aim to have. New agents in the industry can be taught travel and business acumen. I became a travel advisor because I love to travel with my family and help people. I wasn't into sales at first. The sales part of travel kinda grew on me after four years. Yes I was nervous at the beginning coming from a healthcare management background. I was lucky to land with a Host Agency that helped educate me to become the successful advisor that I am today.

Bobbi-Jo Roback, Fly Away Weddings:

Being a travel advisor allows you to bring the world together by sharing cultures and opening up your eyes to the world around you. It allows you to help spread kindness as we become more compassionate to others when we travel.

Sakeysha Williams, Key Occasions:

If you're someone who inherently loves planning trips and is passionate about exploring new destinations, becoming a travel advisor might just be your dream job. From my personal journey, immersing myself in the world of travel has been nothing short of thrilling. This career leverages a natural curiosity about diverse cultures and geographies, allowing you to continually learn and grow. It's not just about booking travel; it's about crafting unforgettable experiences and sharing your own travel tales, which is both rewarding and inspiring. Moreover, if you're an organizer at heart who thrives on multitasking, this role offers the perfect blend of challenge and excitement, coupled with the joy of making others' vacation dreams come true. While it entails hard work, the personal satisfaction and the relationships you build along the way are immensely fulfilling. For those already bitten by the travel bug and who love to share their escapades, becoming a travel advisor is not just a career—it's a way of life.

Sherrie Thomas, Global Gifts Travel:

As a native Washingtonian, I thought the sun rose and set in DC. After my first plane ride to South Korea, with the US Army, I realized the world was so much bigger and better than my small town. I should become a travel advisor because (1) I gained a deep love for traveling the world; (2) I have a deep love for people getting out of their comfort zone and experiencing other cultures (3) I possess  the patience, knowledge, time and attention to detail to plan memorable itineraries and lastly, I’ve never met a stranger. I’m the perfect person to walk a client, regardless of generation, through the travel experience and leave them ready to book the next experience!
