Belgium Travel Guide

An old-time look and feel with a modern culture is what travelers experience when they visit the picturesque West-European country of Belgium.

With medieval buildings and quaint towns, as well as some of the finest cuisines and confectionery Europe has to offer, this is an underrated gem that is begging to be discovered.

The easiest way to get around Belgium is the train system. We found that the trains run on time and the prices are relatively affordable.

If you would prefer to go for a slightly cheaper option, you can also get around using buses. A bus trip is longer than a train, so for longer trips, the latter may be the better option. But if you need a way to get from the train station in a new city to accommodation, or a more rural area, then simply hop on a bus.

We think that renting a car is also a great option as it means you can explore the country with more freedom. You can travel around at your own pace and on your own schedule.

Belgium has something to offer during any season of the year.

The best time to visit Belgium is during the summer months, as this is when the weather is most comfortable and many enjoyable events and festivals are on at this time of year.

The shoulder seasons, autumn and spring, are best to visit if you want to enjoy Belgium while it is quieter, and experiencing milder temperatures.

It might be colder in winter, but many of the cities are lit up for Christmas, with quaint markets to enjoy, so we found that this is quite a charming time of the year in Belgium too.

  • Brussels: The capital city is a must-visit, as it is the hub of all cultural life in Belgium. The city is modern and diverse, bringing together an array of Belgian customs and traditions while still maintaining the historic look and feel.

Top attractions include the Grand Palace, Atonium, the Royal Palace of Brussels, and more.

  • Bruges: The historic town of Bruges is a quaint getaway that feels like you have stepped back into Medieval times. Its cobbled streets are lined with old buildings, and it has beautiful canals running through the town.

In our opinion, some of the best sights include the Basilica of the Holy Blood, Burg Square, and Belfry of Bruges.

  • Antwerp: The port city of Antwerp is the arts and culture hub of Belgium, with a multitude of fascinating
    museums, galleries, and exhibitions.

We found that must-see places include Museum aan de Stroom, Cathedral of Our Lady Antwerp, Grote Marks, and Plantin-Moretus Museum.
