Southeast Asian boutique river cruise operator, Heritage Line, has introduced new private onshore excursions for its Lower Mekong River cruises.

Shore excursions from its cruise ships the Jahan and Jayavarman will enable guests to explore the hidden gems and cultural treasures in Vietnam and Cambodia beyond the ships’ regular itineraries.

The three-night Vietnam cruises include visits to Tan Chau’s scarf-weaving community, Sa Dec’s historic sites and markets and Cai Be’s rice workshops and tropical fruit farms. Visitors can also visit historic homes and temples, bustling markets, attend a local rice workshop to see traditional techniques for crafting rice paper, coconut candy, popped rice and rice distillates and visit a tropical fruit farming family to taste some of the freshest fruit in the Mekong Delta.

Four-night cruise excursions cover seven locations throughout Cambodia, including Kampong Cham’s eco-tourism village, Angkor Ban’s traditional Khmer houses, and Phnom Penh’s cultural landmarks, with options to visit temples, markets and museums. Guests will learn about community-based ecotourism initiatives, visit the largest bamboo bridge in Cambodia, meet local farmers and learn about traditional methods of stone carving and fabric dying.

On the island of Koh Oknha Tey, travelers can journey via tuk-tuk through silk and cotton weaving villages, witness artisans at work and explore floating villages and markets.

The seven-night itinerary offers all ten excursions from both the three- and four-night cruise programs. The seven-night itinerary between Saigon and Siem Reap offers ten private excursions for $720 USD. The four-night itinerary between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh offers seven private excursions for $490 USD and the three-night itinerary between Saigon and Phnom Penh offers three private excursions for $230 USD. Prices are per person for a group of two, and solo travelers pay a 75 percent supplement.
